Wine, beer and more fun on tap this weekend

The Lowry Beer Garden, 7577 East Academy Boulevard, has partnered with three Colorado craft breweries for a series of Oktoberfest festivities. The first begins today and runs through Saturday, September 14; Prost Brewing will be taking over the taps from 6:30 to 10 p.m., and there will be live music from local Oom-Pah bands. The brewery will be showcasing its Altfrankisches Dunkel Bier, Prost Pils, WeiBbier and Marzen. Check the website for a full schedule of featured breweries.

Saturday, September 14:

The inaugural Denver Beerathon goes down today; the crawl begins at noon at any one of the 26 check-in locations in and around downtown, and the $55 ticket price ($70 for a VIP pass) includes one twelve-ounce pour from each participating establishment: 1515 Lounge, 16Mix Cocktail Lounge, Appaloosa Grill, the Celtic Tavern, Central Bistro & Bar, Churchill's Public House, Delaney's Cigar Bar & Lounge, the Drink, Euclid Hall, Fado Irish Pub, Giggling Grizzly, Howl at the Moon, Ignite, It's Brother's Bar & Grill, LoDo's Bar & Grill, Lola, Matchbox, Paramount Cafe, Rialto Cafe, Rio Grande, Rock Bottom Brewery, T|ACO, Tony P's, Uber Sausage, ViewHouse and the Walnut Room. Tickets must be purchased in advance at denverbeerathon.com; a portion of the proceeds benefits Excelsior Youth Center, a local nonprofit. Note: the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel is offering $99 room rates for the evening.

Street Kitchen Asian Bistro, 10111 Inverness Main Street in Englewood, is hosting a hands-on cooking class focusing on Vietnamese cuisine from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. The cost is $75 and includes food and drink pairings; call 303-799-9800 for more information.

Denver Beer Co, 1695 Platte Street, presents the inaugural Oyster & Stout Fest today from noon to 4 p.m. The brewery has teamed up with the Seattle Fish Co. for the event, which costs $25 and includes two pints and twelve oysters from three different oyster stations (East Coast, West Coast and, yes, Rocky Mountain oysters). The Downtown Aquarium, 700 Water Street, is hosting a wine festival from 1 to 4 p.m. today with wine tastings, appetizers and live music from Bop Skizzum. There will also be samples from local breweries and distilleries, a grape stomp and a chance to see the aquarium's animals. Admission is $40 in advance and $45 at the door. Sunday, September 15:

Metropolitan State University of Denver, 1190 Auraria Parkway, is hosting An Evening with the Masters today. The benefit includes a screening of the film SOMM, an insider's look at the Master Sommelier program. Food and drink pairings will be available and there will be two special wine dinners courtesy of Kevin Taylor and Jim Butchart of the Little Nell in Aspen.
