Vietnam Grill, our Best Vietnamese Restaurant in the Best of Denver 2013, closed abruptly last month, shortly after we featured Mark Antonation's review of the place in A Federal Case, and was replaced almost as quickly by Lotus Vegetarian. Danielle Lirette stopped by the new restaurant, and sent back these photos.

I highly recommend that folks try this place out. I very much enjoyed it on my recent visit.

It will be interesting to see how this place competes with Denver's other vegan Vietnamese eatery (V3) which is just a few blocks north on Federal.

I ate there on Saturday night. Most of the food is vegan, which attracted many of my friends. I went alone, planning to read Stephen King's Doctor Sleep, but ended up enjoying the company of fellow vegans. I had the sweet and sour nonmeat protein (tofu or tempeh) and veggies and it was quite tasty. We also shared the tempura, which was a step above traditional tempura and not at all greasy. While the owners of Lotus have some tweaking to do to smooth the delivery process, I think this will be a fabulous go-to restaurant for Denver's vegetarians, vegans, and all people who just love to eat!

@TheFabulousMarkT You definitely have the eagle eye when it comes to Federal Blvd! I've never actually been able to catch V3 when it's open (even during hours posted on the door). That and the steam tables make me think it's actually food cooked at Viet's and kept warm at V3.

I think V3 has a tiny kitchen in back but you're right that it wouldn't be terribly large.

When I went to V3 a few weeks back it was on a Saturday around... maybe 12:30? My feeling is that if Viet's (or V2 in the evenings) gets really busy then V3 kind of takes a backseat staffwise.

V3 actually does (or at least did when I was there) a good all-you-can-eat option which is a nice way to try some of the items that a first-time diner might be a little hesitant to try a large portion of.

You've probably seen it already but here is the full V3 menu - depending on how busy they are they may or may not be able to make things if they aren't already out there on the tables (or, for sweet things, in the "Che Cooler" at the back) -
