Las Margaritas on 17th Avenue will close Sunday

las_margaritas.jpg
After 25 years, the Las Margaritas at 1035 East 17th Avenue will be pouring its last margaritas on Sunday, December 22, and then close its doors. The space is being taken over by Argyll Whiskey Beer, an updated version of the Argyll that Robert Thompson closed in Cherry Creek more than two years ago.

Initially, Thompson was hoping to put Argyll somewhere in the Baker neighborhood, near Punch Bowl Social, but the Las Margaritas space in Uptown was ideal for his concept. He now hopes to open the new place in late spring; watch for updates on the Argyll website.

Las Margaritas once had several locations in metro Denver; this was the last survivor, and now it's dried up altogether.

It was a neighborhood favorite of ours when it first opened there, but has steadily gone down hill in recent years. The service and food were so bad the last time we stopped in over the past few years that we vowed never to go in again. Good riddance, we look forward to something new going in there.

Now they can fix that sewage smell from the bathrooms. Hopefully it will be a good food hub with less pretentious attitude than what's been popping up in this area.

Eleen isn't this the place you really like down there?

We used to like this place when we lived downtown. The price hike they made over the last few years didn't justify the food, experience or atmosphere. Or the smelly carpets.

Sad to see it go. So many late night memories. :-(

I guess I'm just a little biased. I loved Argyll when it was I cherry creek and will be a hard sell when it comes back around to my neighborhood.

Does that mean the closure of this particular establishment will lead to the end of your marriage?

I ate there a few times when I lived in Denver. My friends loved it. I thought it was mediocre.

Lame. What am I going to do without that delicious corn meal stuff when I get Mexican food now?

I worked there when it was Josephina's Uptown when the one one on Larimer Square closed. I rocked that place back in the day..

Have been there a few times when it went to Mexi-cheesy, and it was nothing to write home about..

If I was still close, I would work that spot all night long..
