Masterpiece Deli, whose original location in Highland has been such a hit, opened a second spot this morning in Uptown at 1710 Sherman Street. And if you hurry over there before 11 a.m., you can get a free small coffee from Novo Coffee as part of the grand-opening celebration.

Both locations are owned by Justin Brunson -- executive chef of Old Major and the Denver Bacon Company -- and Stephen Allee. The LoHi location opened back in 2008, and got rave reviews from the start for what Masterpiece bills as "fine dining between bread."

The Uptown location, which will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, will feature the same lineup of sandwiches, soups and salads, as well as a case with products ready for take-out, including pre-made sandwiches and salads, cured and smoked deli meats, and pastries from an ever-changing menu. The space is three times as large as the original, and also has a heated patio.

"The crossroads of Denver's Uptown and business districts was the ideal spot to offer Masterpiece's signature boxed lunches, grab and go selections, delivery in a one-mile radius, catering and beer, liquor and wine," says Brunson in a release announcing the opening. "Our hip and urban design by LIV Studios, build-out by Jordy Construction and interior fixtures and furnishing by Fin Art Co. illustrates our commitment to bringing a comfortable, yet hip new eatery to the Uptown neighborhood."

They ought to think about closing the Highland location for a few days, pulling out their toothbrushes, and cleaning the place from floor to ceiling.

It used to be a half decent sandwich shop but it's really gone down hill. The employees don't give a shit about anything and last time I was there it was so dirty inside I left.
