January 16, 1919: a day filled with sorrows -- and nothing to drown them in. Congress had just passed the Eighteenth Amendment, outlawing alcohol in hopes of ridding the land of drunkards, mental illness and poverty. But the Prohibition plan rallied for by rural Protestants and the Anti-Saloon League backfired, causing a thirteen-year stint of increased organized crime and all-around delinquency. All was not lost, though, and Americans were granted the right to bear a cocktail on December 5, 1933 with the ratification of the 21st Amendment.

Celebrate the alcoholic arts on the eve of Repeal Day with a 1933 carnival at Green Russell from 7 p.m. tonight to 1 a.m. This semi-speakeasy joint, fronted by another Frank Bonanno establishment, Wednesday's Pie, will host a night filled with musical entertainment from the Minor Note Orchestra and sultry burlesque acts from Ms. Vivienne VaVoom. The bar will be creating specialty cocktails made with George Dickel. Tickets are $10 per person at the door and include a drink ticket, which will be entered into a raffle for a Goorin Bros. hat. (Goorin Bros., close by in Larimer Square, will have its own Prohibition repeal party on December 5.)

Throw a cover on that backyard grill and head over to Oak at Fourteenth for one final roast of the year. The chic yet cozy neighborhood restaurant in Boulder features seasonal New American cuisine with a focus on local farmers.

Chef/co-owner Steven Redzikowski will cook up a savory five-course menu to showcase the star of the show: roasted goat. Each dish will be paired with Del Maguey Single Village Mezcal, made from the maguey plant of Oaxaca, as well as Julian Hard Ciders from Julian, California. A cocktail reception will begin at 7 p.m. with dinner to follow at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $65 per person (plus tax and gratuity); call Oak at 303-444-3622. And check out the full menu here

Vegans are also getting their time to shine at Chomp!, a monthly community dinner presented by Plants & Animals Denver, a local vegan advocacy group. The French-themed dinner will start at 7 p.m. in the new home event space, The Horse Barn. A suggested donation of $8 to $10 is encouraged; make a reservation on the Chomp! Facebook page .
