Sweet! Cuba Cuba Sandwicheria serves up Cuban desserts

How sweet it is! Cuba Cuba Sandwicheria's tres leches cake.
I love chocolate chip cookies and Rice Krispies treats, but it's always a letdown when I see them wrapped in Saran by the register at fast-casual spots. Why not offer desserts more in sync with the menu? That's why I appreciated the globally-inspired desserts at the Cuba Cuba Sandwicheria in CitySet, which I review this week: They reflect Cuba as much as the colorful photo of Havana plastered on the wall.

Flan at Cuba Cuba Sandwicheria.
Here you'll find favorites such as flan and a tres leches cake topped with whipped cream and drenched, as the name implies, in milk, sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk.

My favorite treat, however, was the pastelito, a turnover filled with a blend of guava and cream cheese on flaky housemade pastry.

And if these sound too sweet, you can always order a café con leche, which is sugary enough to count as dessert.

Open a Cuba Cuba Sandwicheria in Denver proper! I miss the one in Boulder so much and Cityset is too far away from me.

The first Cuba Cuba Sandwicheria was in Boulder, not Glendale.

Doesn't Westword already have a fast food critic in Jenn Wohletz?

Also, I did visit the one in Glendale, and it just doesn't have the charm of the Boulder location. The Boulder location is smaller, doesn't have a bar (and doesn't need one), and I would see the owner present and supervising the operation every time I went in.

So does that mean Gretchen has been demoted and will be covering fast casual chain restaurants from here on out>

@WillieStortz Well, Jennifer had pretty much run through all the biggies, so who knows how it'll shake out? :)
