First look: Ruth's Chris Steak House reopens downtown - and Mayor Hancock couldn't be happier

"Welcome back to Denver," proclaimed Denver mayor Michael Hancock, who held his knife steady as he sliced into a bloody filet at yesterday's ribbon-cutting ceremony at Ruth's Chris Steak House, the beefy, New Orleans-based shrine to cow that reopened last night in a swanky, 10,000-square-foot space in downtown Denver, nearly five years after it closed its original location in LoDo. "You're like a long-lost girlfriend that finally came back to the one she loved," enthused Hancock, adding that Ruth's Chris would be "phenomenally successful" and "add to the luster of downtown and the 16th Street Mall." And then, after slicing his steak, Hancock wondered aloud what he should do next. "Eat it!" thundered general manager Eddy Gomez. Hancock, of course, obliged.

The steak house, which Gomez described as "warm, welcoming and elegant," is open for dinner nightly. Here's a first look at the space and the sizzle.

Many thanks to GM Eddy Gomez and his team for selecting the Alzheimer's Association of Colorado as the recipient of their fundraising activities the weekend prior to the steak cutting and grand opening. They raised $3,200 to help fund programs, services provided by the Association at no cost to Colorado families, and for research to find a cure. To contact the Association for someone you love, 800.272.3900 or alz.org/co

Well, I sure hope their food is good because based on the photos, their choice of interior design and decor doesn't look the least bit warm or inviting at all. What were they thinking? I'm not exactly sure who they think that type of design is going to attract.

Will be a huge improvement over the badly overrated (on both food and especially service, and thus overpriced) Elway's, and healthy competition for Brook's, Morton's (which I hear is not as good as it used to be since purchase by the Landry's group), or Shanahan's.

when is Mayor Hancock going to recognize and welcome Denver's most interesting new business, and dig his teeth into a nice, big, phat, overtaxed, legal joint?

To be honest, I am way more excited about Guard and Grace opening down the street at 18th and California.  It's local, not a chain and Troy Guard will be at the helm.  I have a feeling it will be awesome.
