Rocky Top Tavern will open in the former Hill-Top Bar space
The old Hill-Top Bar just north of I-70, at 4907 Lowell Boulevard, was one of the tiniest dives in town -- but it had a big group of fans, and that small spot produced a lot of memories. Now the bar is about to be resurrected: as the Rocky Top Tavern.

The structure was a bar for more than six decades; before that, it held a drugstore. Here's the word on the place from Rocky Top's Facebook page:
The Rocky Top Tavern is located just outside the Highlands in the Regis neighborhood. Our location has been serving up drinks for over 60 years. We're proud to be continuing the tradition of Slim's Hilltop and the Hill-Top Tavern who came before us. After a massive remodel we're excited to show off all of our hard work. We've restored the 90 year old hardwoods, built a new bar, added a kitchen, and remodeled the bathrooms. We added nine 55in and one 70in TV for your viewing pleasure, making it a great place to watch the Broncos or any other game. We also have 2 Pool tables, Beer Pong, Big Buck Hunter, and Golden Tee. Our goal is to make a great place to hang out with friends, family, or neighbors and enjoy cheap drinks. Proud supporter of Regis University and Regis Athletics. Come by soon to enjoy some of our kick ass specials.Once the bar opens -- which could be as soon as this weekend -- it will be open from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Sunday, with happy hour from open until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The new bar replaces a worn, linoleum U.
