Art and eating collide at Monkey Town 4, starting tonight
Colorado native Montgomery Knott has returned to the Mile High City from New York, bringing with him his experimental, immersive food and film experience: Monkey Town 4. The curated event will feature eighteen local and national video artists' works projected on the massive walls of a dining cube, with a changing slate of pop-up performers and local chefs cooking several-course meals.
Knott started Monkey Town in a loft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn more than ten years ago. Now the former Denverite has taken his art and dining experience outside of New York for the first time: Monkey Town 4 will start its three-month pop-up run at the Exdo Hall in RiNo tonight. This three-month stay is just the first stop on an expected three-year national and international tour for Knott and his dining cube.
Monkey Town promises to be a spectacle for the senses. The experimental dining experience will take place within a cube created by 24-foot-high walls of video screens, with a two-hour curated program featuring work by eighteen artists and filmmakers, many of whom are from Colorado. While they experience the art, diners will be treated to multi-course meals paired with wine. Chefs for the experience include Jonathan Power of The Populist, Daniel Landes of City, O' City/WaterCourse Foods and Andrew Van Stee and Chris MacGillivary, both of the Noble Swine Supper Club.
Starting tonight, Monkey Town 4 will offer two seatings at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. every evening excluding Mondays through June 1; each seating has room for only 32 guests. "This is one of the most unique dining experiences you'll ever have. It sounds like hyperbole, but by the time our last run was almost over, we sold out every night," Knott says.
Tickets are $50 for a three-course meal on Tuesday or $80 for the five-course option served Wednesdays through Sundays. You can watch a trailer of the dining experience here, and learn more on Monkey Town's website.
