Lines formed hours before the doors opened this morning, but Denver has been waiting much longer for Trader Joe's, the famous West Coast grocery store chain, to arrive in Denver. And today, three stories opened simultaneously in the metro area -- one in Boulder, one in Greenwood Village, and one in central Denver. Our photographer Brandon Marshall was at the store at 790 Colorado Boulevard to take a look at the shelves and capture the start of a new era of grocery shopping in Denver; see his complete slide show here.

Keep reading for a taste of Trader Joe's.

Guess what?  Denver's a city now.  And like many cities, there are lines.  The Trader Joe's in Manhattan always has a massive line, and odds are, there will be lines in Denver for a long time to come too.  But you know what?  I stood in line for a whole 15 minutes, tops, and I've done that at Whole Foods and King Soopers a million times, it's just that the way the line is set up (one line for multiple cashiers) makes it look much worse.  It's not that bad.

I still haven't been to Ikea.  This can also wait until the lines are gone.

Coming from Sterling the Sperm Sucker, he dares to talk about a WASTE of Human Existence = LMAO !!!

Again, you fail to comprehend what I say. I don't deny WF's stocks it shelves with "natural" and unclean foods.

Life must be riddled with anxiety for you always looking at life through such an intense political lens, as though its all one big conspiracy. You don't even know me and have chosen to call me names. You are weak minded.

Wrong, Josh Bradley. He's not a tool as a tool possesses something that Danny Butt Boy here doesn't: actual utility. Nope, he's just wasteful human existence.

This "Food Babe" is neither reliable nor an expert in nutritional science nor even has a background in basic chemistry. She's simply another in a long line of loudmouthed (or should I say, loud-keyed) blogger heads who use their mere likeness to generate page hits and influence amongst a truly fickle public. You fail miserably....even as a corporate shill, Clason.

Josh Bradley, you're a Douchebag & I'm not even a Democrat to KNOW you KNOW NOTING about 'Independent Thinking' !!!

You're a tool...and I'm not even pro-Obama. I can tell exactly how much pseudo-independent thinking you do lol

^No kidding. Squi...really, in an hour? You must be one special individual. Actually, judging by your post, you are special but not in a good way.

You literally made me lol...thanks. So true. They latch on to something and ride it in to the ground so far it becomes a hole.

Amen! I don't get it either. Fuckin' tools.

What's cool about Trader Joe's is their offerings of products under their private label that are either cheaper than they are elsewhere, or simply not available anywhere else. The rants about hipsters sound pretty absurd when I picture the people I was in line with. Trader Joe's is probably not going to replace any body's usual market. It just offers some new alternatives.

No and No. I guess this is your new Voodoo donuts for the next few weeks eh?

It seems that hipsters will shop at any massive corporate entity that markets to their illusion of individualism, no matter how low quality, the processed food is.

The clearly label certified organic foods. I never mentioned once GMO's, I know for a fact they sell products with GMO's and pesticides. Have you ever referenced www.foodbabe.com? She does a great job at identifying brands that aren't clean, many of which are at WF's. And

Don't believe for a second that your cherished Whole Foods doesn't sell similar products laced with antibiotics, hormones, or even GMOs. Often, many of their products are labeled as "natural" rather than truly being certified organic in order to mislead consumers. WFM, itself, was really created to put food co-ops out of business. Sucker.

Yes! Now I want to go back when I can take more time to look at all the amazing things available.

Two buck chuck and cookie butter seem to be the hype. I'll check it out soon. But ground beef is ground beef. Don't most of the outlets get a lot of their goods from the same suppliers?

Mary, TJ's was asked why they carry so many meats raised with hormones, antibiotics, and the such when interviewed by 9news. In their written response to 9news they say that they believe they stock their store with the foods people want. When was the last time you've heard someone say they are looking for hormones and antibiotics in their meat?????

Sticking with Whole Foods, really! Why, do you just like to pay more money? Trader Joe's is great with their prices! I don't know why there is so much negative commentary. Colorado has waited years for these stores! I say WELCOME to Colorado Trader Joe's!

People were saying that it was going to like the lines on New years for marijuana. Ana Hg

I went tonight. It was crowded, but no worse then shopping anywhere around the holidays. Trader Joe's has some really good stuff, at really good prices. I don't know why some people love to hate on it. It's just a store.

No. I'll let the fuss die down as I did with Sprouts. In any event I'll only go during the week during the day, No evening or weekends. My main shopping will continue to be at the nearest KS.

Fuckin robots. The store will still be there the day after and the day after that. It's like everyone needs to run to a stupid store on the day it opens like they've never been to a fucking store before. Idiots!

My side street a few blocks away became a nightmare of SUVs playing chicken with each other. A tow truck side swiped my parked car. So far, I hate trader joes and their lack of planning for the traffic mess. I won't be going in at all. Way to make an impact on the neighborhood, a**holes.

consumerism at it's best. see all the sheeple, standing in line, thinking they are getting something so special. i sure hope everyone is reading the labels on all the new boxes and cans of processed food they are so excited to purchase. yay!!

Randall, Two Buck Chuck is actually a nickname for the Charles Shaw wine TJ's sells -- they used to sell it for two bucks.  Now I think it's maybe four?  Decent cheap wine.

Philo99

Sorry some people have standards when it comes to their foods and the cheaply made, processed crap that they sell at trader Joe's doesn't meet those standards.

I guess you just have lower standard, and it's good to see you accept that.

@Philo99 Trader Joe's has plenty of processed food (though no more than Whole Foods), but they also have lots of higher end products at prices that the grocery store chains -- even Walmart -- can't compete with (much less Whole Foods).  You'll find packages of prosciutto di parma, bresaola, tons of hard-to-find gourmet cheeses, good spices and salts, chocolate, maple syrup, honey, lots of other great stuff.  I'll still turn to Whole Foods for most of my fresh meat, seafood, and produce, but Trader Joe's fills a different niche, and is much more affordable.
