Comrade Brewing's debut will kick off a spate of metro-area brewery openings in May

Denver's newest brewery will open this weekend in a neighborhood in the southeastern part of town that is thirsting for craft-beer options; Comrade Brewing, which has a large taproom, two bar areas and six beers on tap, makes its official debut on Saturday.

But at least four other breweries in the area -- in Aurora, Broomfield, Centennial and Littleton -- are expected to follow in the next few weeks. And that's just the start for the early summer of 2014, when at least five or six more breweries hope to begin slinging suds.

Update: Blue Spruce just announced that it will open on Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. with twenty beers (eight of its own) and a very limited menu.
On tap next: Blue Spruce Brewing, owned by former biology teacher Rich Kane, said on its Facebook page this week that it could open sometime in the next few days: "We passed our final city inspections. Now preparing to open later this week! Watch for a specific announcement for the exact day. It is really happening!" The brewpub, at 4151 East County Line Road, in Centennial will feature Kane's beers, guest beers, and "Mazatlan-style" Mexican food.

Coda Brewing, at 2101 North Ursula Street, in Aurora plans to open its doors on either May 5 or May 12, according to brewmaster and part owner Luke Smith. Located on the Fitzsimmons military base, Coda will make unusual beers that don't fit into specific categories.

They'll be followed by 38 State Brewing, which has set its grand opening for May 10 at 8071A South Broadway, in Littleton. "We will be opening with each of our staple beers: Two Buttes Double IPA, Great Plains Scottish Ale, ColorAmber Amber Ale, Golden Lemon-Honey Wheat, and our Chocolate Stout, in addition to at least one -- possibly two -- summer seasonals," says co-owner Brett Blazek. "Needless to say, we are extremely excited ...and can't wait to cater to the Littleton/Highlands Ranch population, in addition o the rest of the C470 corridor."

And finally, 4 Noses Brewing is gearing up for a Memorial Day weekend debut at 8855 West 116 Circle in Broomfield, near the 1stBank Center. This brewery is a family-owned and operated enterprise that plans to combine traditional styles with nontraditional flavor profiles. "It will be a day-by-day thing depending on the final inspection and some touch-ups," says co-owner Tommy Bibliowicz.

I'm right across the street from Comrade Brewing Company! Can't wait for it to open.

Hopefully Wonderland in Broomfield will open soon. Their collaboration beer (at Collaboration Fest) was excellent, and everyone I met from the brewery seemed really passionate about beer!
