Jax Glendale breaks out of the chain gang in CitySet

Danielle Lirette
Jax Glendale opened in CitySet last summer.
Chains are saddled with a bad reputation, and but why let a few class clowns taint the whole group? There are several spots in Glendale's CitySet project -- the bustling, year-old development off of South Colorado Boulevard and Cherry Creek South Drive -- that, while technically links in chain restaurants, defy the stereotypes and move right to the head of the class.

One of those restaurants is part of a national chain: Native Foods Cafe. Despite its California origins, we named it Best Vegetarian Restaurant in this year's Best of Denver issue.

Another award-winner in the complex is Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar, a Best of Denver blue-ribbon honoree for Best Seafood Restaurant.

But Jax started winning that award long before Jax Glendale, the newest of the homegrown chain's four locations, arrived on the scene. How does the baby of the family measure up? Does it follow birth order and assume the role of class clown, or has it learned a thing or two from its dutiful older siblings? Find out when my review of this Jax is posted here tomorrow.
