After the speeches were over and the ribbon was cut, the attendees of the Union Station Bus Line grand opening made their way to Wynkoop Brewing's beer garden to toast the 22-gate, underground station (which opens on Sunday).

The beer garden was pouring Mile High Pale Ale, Kurt's Mile High Malt, Orchard Wheat and, of course, Rail Yard, one of the 25-year-old brewpub's original recipes -- and one that was named for the Wynkoop's location across the street from Union Station.

"RTD is huge to the neighborhood. Union Station is very exciting with the transformation. Being one of the first businesses in lower downtown we're kind of a mainstay ourselves, so it's good for us to come out and support the opening," says Wynkoop events director Amy Evans. Governor John Hickenlooper, who spoke at the ribbon cutting, was one of the founders of the Wynkoop.

The Wynkoop may have also been celebrating the beginning of the end of the construction that has limited parking and hurt business a little.

"We're excited Union Station is finally opening, and we wouldn't miss out on the opportunity to hang out on a Friday afternoon and pour beer," says Wynkoop head brewer Andy Brown, adding that he picked four beers that represented the brewery.

One of the most popular beers in the garden on Friday was the Orchard Wheat, which was brewed originally just for Elitch Gardens. Some proceeds from the beers sales will be donated to the Colorado Neurological Institute.
