Reader: I love Casa Bonita -- always have, always will

Casa Bonita is Denver's top tourist trap, according to Yahoo: "If you're looking for a popular place to eat, you may get recommendations to visit Casa Bonita. The restaurant boasts cliff divers, escaping gorillas and an amusement arcade. Beware the bland Mexican food though because it isn't authentic."

True, the food would have to improve considerably in order to qualify as mediocre. But no one is going to Casa Bonita for authentic Mexican food. They're going for the gloriously cheesy spectacle. This is far from Denver's biggest tourist trap -- but it's definitely Denver's most talked-about restaurant. If you consider Casa Bonita a restaurant...

Says Andrew:
I love Casa. Always have, always will. I see why everyone hates it, I'm not blind. I simply just don't care. I love all the cheesiness, and silly skits with the gorilla and the divers. I love it for what it it. CB isn't under any delusions about what they are, and neither should their customers. I have a cast-iron stomach I could literally eat there everyday. The one complaint I do have is their video games. I wish they would upgrade their arcade. Until then, raise a flag and order another round. Viva Casa Bonita.!
If not Casa Bonita, then what is Denver's top tourist trap? And what's Denver's top tourist-trap restaurant?

That's funny, because I do, indeed, get paid for the freelance work I do. And it has nothing to do with my opinions on something like this. You don't have to agree with me, and no one forced you to read my comment. I didn't get paid for writing this, I simply contributed an opinion based on a prompt. There's nothing to "craft." Perhaps educate yourself before you pass judgment on someone you don't know regarding something you obviously know nothing about. I don't think I attacked you, or your profession for that matter, in anything I said here. Thanks for taking time out of your day to give me advice that was neither constructive nor edifying. It was very inspiring and incredibly helpful. I'll bear it in mind the next time I have an opinion. Though you may also want to think about reviewing your own writing before you bother about simple typos: "Tweek" here is not the proper word. You're looking for "tweak." I'm just glad we could both learn something in this.

Freelance stands for cant get a real job writing. May need to tweek your writing..."Go go eat at Casa Bonita all your tiny little hearts desires". I'm no English major, or "freelance writer" but that sounds like my 5 year old talking. Perfect your craft before you start critiquing young lady.

Casa Bonita does is a special place in Denver - you do have to go there and experience it. You just have to remember it is not a restaurant, so be very careful of the food...

Hahaha, you don't HAVE to read everything presented to you. Also, I prefer to be called "God," not the diminutive. The post asked for opinions, I'm a writer, so I gave mine in the best way I know how. Don't like it? Good. Go go eat at Casa Bonita all your tiny little heart desires.

They really need to clean it up. It could also use about three coats of paint.

Its not what it used to be, kind of run down and dirty. Food was always bad but now it's just sad. The owners need to spend some money and spruce the place up. Maybe a Montfort owns it.

First of all they seriously need to change up the menu to some REAL Mexican cuisine. Second get rid of the cafeteria style service where u have to carry your own damn food. Almost dropping your meal and drinks after waiting in line forever. Its hilarious to see the look on peoples faces who have never been there. It would be nice to go there with out having to worry about me or my kids getting sick. Laughing stock of restuarents in Denver..really sad but looks like its never gonna change!

It has a special spot on a rennovation list and the food has a spot in the trash. Ambiance is cool but it doesn't make up for dinner, cockroaches and rude staff.

Everyone always says "you have to go at least once." As a Colorado native, and having been to the establishment several times in my 26 years, as a child and as an adult, I disagree wholeheartedly. I've never gone on my own volition, and I won't ever go again. For the pathetic novelty of it, the sopaipillas, and the margaritas, I would once pay the outrageous "price" for entry if someone else really desired my presence, but due to their "policies," I won't be returning-- no matter the circumstances. The last time I went, I got into an argument with the hostess. I did not want to eat the meal, having had bad experiences with the food as many others here have professed, but offered to just give her the cost for nothing in return. That's right, I asked if I could just GIVE them money to NOT make me food, and they refused. My options were "pick a meal" or "leave." I told her they were wasting supplies, time, energy, and money in forcing me to select a meal I had no inclination to eat. I told her I would spend plenty on drinks, which I would actually consume and enjoy. I told her their food made me sick and that I was happy to just follow along in line. I told her the ridiculous policy would lose my patronage. No avail. After that day, I haven't returned, and I've done my best to explain to friends that the "cheesy spectacle" of it isn't at all worth the price, the headache (and bellyache if you actually do try to stomach the food), the conditions, or the screaming children. Even the arcade is archaic and mostly useless. I'm surprised they haven't gone out of business already. Give people the option to pay an "entry fee" to drink and visit with friends or to enjoy the sopaipillas and divers/shows, clean up the absolutely abhorrent kitchen/food line (and the rest of the building while you're at it), fix the staff's piss-poor attitudes, fix the food's piss-poor recipes (Mmm, MSG!), then maybe we'll talk. Casa Bonita will always have a special place somewhere, but it's definitely not in my heart. I don't need to spend $15+ on sub-par food and service for campy entertainment.

I was taken to Casa Bonita's in 1974. I was in living in California at the time and moved to Golden in 2012 could not believe it was still there. Food is not the greatest but it's all about making it fun for the kids. Why are the adults dogging it? It's for the kids!

I remember when I saw a huge cockroach fall into the enchilada sauce. The cook saw it but just kept on stirring. I literally got out of line and ran to puke...then sat outside while the rest of the group did whatever.
