Two bi-partisan groups of Colorado lawmakers -- a crew that is often woefully unfamiliar with this state's craft-beer industry -- will make their way to a pair of breweries this week as part of a program created by the Colorado Brewers Guild called Hop the Vote. A team of state senators will be at Dry Dock Brewing today while a roster of state representatives will head to Denver Beer Co on Friday. Both groups will brew a beer -- and then Great American Beer Festival attendees will vote on which is better in October. The real payoff will come in 2015 and thereafter, though, if the Guild is able to keep these legislators on its side when it comes to booze-related political issues like whether or not grocery stores should be allowed to sell full-strength beer, wine and spirits.

Wednesday, August 27

Copper Kettle Brewing has been tapping a series of firkins on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. this month based on childhood cereals. The last one is Apple Jacks, an American blonde with apples and cinnamon. Ckrepes will be serving its Asian/Hawaiian-style cuisine at 3 p.m. The brewery is now tapping two firkins of each one.

Since fall is now in the air, River North Brewery says, it will dig into the cellar for a beer that it hasn't tapped since last winter, B-Side Avarice -- as part of its weekly Wayward Wednesday series. Single keg only; first pours at 3 p.m.

Black Shirt Brewing will tap a new beer today at 5 p.m. on which it collaborated with Old Major. It's a Lemongrass Red Farmhouse, and there is only a small amount.

Thursday, August 28

Station 26 Brewing will tap a firkin of Euro Pale Ale with lemon and ginger today as part of its weekly cask program. The Farm to Truck food truck will be on hand.

Friday, August 29

Dry Dock Brewing will tap a cask of Chocolate Orange Peel Imperial Stout today at 3 p.m. as part of its weekly Firkin Friday program.

We regret to inform you all that Denver Beer Co has claimed a trademark on the word "pumpkin" in regards to their Hey! Pumpkin beer. All other beers with pumpkin in their name are now illegal in Denver (and also never refer to the city in which you make your beers - that D word - they own that too).
