Win two seats to the Million Dollar Cowboy Harvest Week dinner Friday

Update: We have a winner of our contest. Congrats to Alison Torvik, who was the only commenter to guess all five restaurants correctly: Vesta Dipping Grill, Sushi Den, Strings, Highland's Garden Cafe and Duo.

Chris Cina and Jensen Cummings, two of the chefs cooking during EatDenver's Harvest Week.

While last week was all about the Great American Beer Festival (and hangovers), this week is all about our local chefs, many of whom are taking part in Harvest Week, a six-day brunch and dinner salute to Colorado's backyard bounty. All of the multi-course pop-up jubilees will take place at the Growhaus, a rather marvelous non-profit urban indoor farm, market and educational center in the Elyria-Swansea neighborhood that, during Harvest Week, morphs into a communal gathering place for chefs and like-minded foodniks who all convene to share in the locally-sourced endowment of culinary riches.

Harvest Week has begun at the GrowHaus, 4751 York Street. The week-long celebration of Colorado-sourced cuisine is a product of EatDenver, a coalition of local eateries "committed to supporting and promoting the value of independent dining within our community." Thirty-six restaurants from the group will be serving pop-up-dinners paired with hand-crafted cocktails, local brews and wines at the non-profit urban farm through October 19 -- check Cafe Society for updates and coverage.

And here's what else is on the menu this week:

EatDenver's Harvest Week returns with 36 restaurants and a series of pop-up parties at the GrowHaus

HarvestWeekTableShot1.jpg
October is far and away my favorite month in Colorado -- and it really has nothing to do with marshmallow pumpkins, goblins or watching the original Halloween for the umpteenth time, although I do enjoy all of those distractions.

October signifies bounty in Colorado, with farmers' markets, farm stands and farmsteads overflowing with autumn's abundance of crops, and therein lies my obsession -- an obsession shared by local restaurants that celebrate fall's fortitude by showcasing stunning ingredients and products from the state's fields, farms and vineyards. And from October 14-19, 36 restaurants, all of which are members of EatDenver, a coalition of local, independent food temples, are paying homage to Colorado's rich bumper crop as part of Harvest Week, an annual event that began in 2008.

The Den Farm provides local produce to the Kizaki brothers' trio of Japanese restaurants

Toshi and Yasu Kizaki have built a Japanese empire on South Pearl Street, expanding the success of Sushi Den into Izakaya Den and, last year, Ototo Food and Wine Bar. Because of the nature of sushi, they import a lot of their fish from Japan. But because they wanted to use more local ingredients, last year, they also picked up a farm.

Contest alert: Win two tickets to an EatDenver Harvest Week pop-up dinner or brunch

harvestweeklogo1.jpg
Tickets are going fast for EatDenver's Harvest Week, the local, independent restaurant organization's annual celebration of Colorado produce, livestock and products, including wine, beer and spirits.

This year's tribute to the state's bumper crop of foodstuffs will feature a series of multi-course pop-up meals, paired with liquid assets, created by chefs from some of the city's best restaurants, including Encore on Colfax, ChoLon, Vesta Dipping Grill, Duo, Elway's Cherry Creek, Root Down, Linger and Row 14. "Harvest Week is an opportunity for Denver's independent restaurants to give thanks to our local farmers, distillers and winemakers and to share with our customers the amazing products Colorado has to offer," says Elizabeth Woessner, interim executive director of EatDenver.

The pop-up meals, all of which will take place between October 9 and 13 at the GrowHaus, an urban farm and marketplace, will spotlight specific Colorado-raised proteins: beef, pork, lamb and bison. You can win two seats to one of the four dinners or brunch by participating in our contest.

EatDenver's Harvest Week will sprout pop-up brunches and dinners at GrowHaus urban farm

Thumbnail image for eatdenverpic-330x405.jpg
Tickets for Harvest Week, an annual culinary bonanza that's the innovation of EatDenver, a collection of locally owned, independent restaurants, go on sale today, but instead of
Denver restaurants hosting the dinners, GrowHaus, an urban farm and marketplace at 4751 York Street (the farm recently won Maxwell House's Drops of Good contest and $50,000) that provides community garden space to grow your own vegetables, is offering its acreage for a series of pop-up brunches and dinners.

Participating chefs from EatDenver member restaurants are collaborating on six-course menus that focus on specific Colorado ingredients, and each pop-up brunch or dinner will spotlight a different Colorado protein as well as local wines, beers or spirits to pair with the courses. And all of the meals are picnic-style, insomuch that foodniks need to bring their own plates, utensils, water and wine glasses. It's an eco-conscious thing.

The five days of pop-up meals, which include one Sunday brunch and four dinners, take root on Sunday, October 9 and continue through Thursday, October 13. Tickets are $50 per person, and only fifty seats are available at each event. A full schedule is on the following page. In the days leading up to Harvest Week, we'll post menus and updates.
