Fashionista Diaries Part Deux

fashionistas_rachel.jpg

Last week Cat trashed the new SoapNet show Fashionista Diaries. Yet she watched it again this week. What does it say about Cat that she's compelled to watch an implosion in the making. Yowza.

Before we get to the episode though, a shout out to Intern Rachel (pictured above), who called Cat a dumb bitch in the comments section. Glad to see you're reading, Rachel, and that your Ivy League education provided you with such deep and meaningful thoughts to contribute to the dialogue.

On the positive side, Cat loves the executives at FLIRT! They're smart, stylish and seem to be doing an excellent job of managing Tina and Janjay, giving them opportunities to grow and constructive feedback when appropriate.

The Jane magazine editors redeemed themselves by the end of the show. Because when Andrew and Rachel sat in on the pitch meeting tossing out the lamest drek, and the edit staff seemed to eat it up, Cat was about to spit up hairballs. But behind closed doors, the editors discussed how Journalism 101 the interns' ideas were. Whew. Cat still does feel bad for Andrew, who was given an assignment to go embed himself in a frat and report a feature -- but he has no interviewing, reporting and journalism training. Ouch.

Intern Nicole was even more annoying that last week -- she's just so stressed -- but it was still uncool for Seventh House head Mandie Erickson to roll her eyes and explain that, well, Nicole is from Queens. Cat had to applaud, though, when she told Nicole to "buck up little pony." When that girl's daddy told her maybe has protected and pampered her too long, it was the understatement of the year.

Intern Bridget was as annoyingly vapid as ever, but even she didn't deserve the condescending treatment she received from some "socialite" in to find the perfect party outfit. The woman kept calling Bridget "monkey" because she's "the tail." I've seen it happen before, so I don't doubt that it was a real interaction -- though maybe on some performance-enhancing drugs for television. Bridget, interns everywhere would have cheered if you'd bitch-slapped her -- especially when her last words were "you're useless." You got a pass for most of the episode just for having to deal with that woman.

The show is still awful, but it'll have to get us all through until the new class of designers is ready to hit Project Runway.
