Blue Horizons

Back in June, Bill Clinton's handlers didn't think he'd answer a question about whether his wife was running for president. (Although answer it he did — twice — and one of his lines even rated a laugh on Leno.) But in Denver yesterday, when Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton unveiled the Democratic Leadership Council's "American Dream Initiative," she was sounding plenty presidential.

Clinton's appearance was the high point of the DLC's visit to blue, blue Denver — and from the looks of it, she could be back in town two years from now. Denver is one of three finalists to host the Democratic National Convention in 2008 (exactly 100 years from the last time the city hosted the confab), and even without an official announcement, Hillary looks like the frontrunner. No joke. -- Patricia Calhoun
