Girl Fight

Natalie McFarlane didn't know the two little girls who she played a role in shooting. But on September 25, she entered a guilty plea in the case.

As revealed in the Westword feature "Girl Crazy," McFarlane (right) was a 19-year-old college student with a clean record and a boyfriend, Andy Rubio (center), who she brought along to meet up with her friend Terra Ramirez (left) in August 2005.

Ramirez had been beefing with another set of girls that day; her adversaries had sent her a text that read "Fuck you and your P.A. crew." (P.A. stood for "Pimpin' Always," a tagger crew that was gaining some notoriety as a gang that summer.) Ramirez said that Rubio was a friend of her boyfriend at the time, and that Rubio had sworn to look after Ramirez while her boyfriend was in jail. So she called McFarlane for back-up, and when McFarlane and Rubio pulled up, they had an AK-47 with them.

McFarlane and Rubio followed Ramirez to the house where one of the girls who was allegedly taunting her lived. Rubio got out of McFarlane's car and walked within sight of the house. He lifted the AK and began blasting. But one of the bullets sailed past the vehicle he was shooting at and into a house where it wounded two little girls for life. Rubio fought his charges, lost, and got 180 years in prison in August.

McFarlane was originally charged with six counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two charges of illegally discharging a firearm, one count of conspiracy to commit criminal mischief and one count of conspiring to commit an illegal discharge of a firearm. As part of a deal with prosecutors, she pled guilty to first-degree assault on Monday. She'll be sentenced on November 14.

Ramirez is still scheduled to be sentenced on October 16. That's the same day trial is scheduled to begin for Monique Trujillo, who is accused of playing a role in shooting Ramirez a few months before the incident in which Ramirez pled guilty. -- Luke Turf
