In the Still of the Night

The buzz is still building about Steven Holl, the architect who will not be designing the courthouse that will be part of the new Justice Center at the Civic Center. (For Michael Paglia's recent take on the contretemps, click here.)

But on Monday night, that controversy can take a breather when a trio of other prestigious architectural outfits -- Allied Works Architecture of Portland, Diller Scofidio + Renfro of New York City, and Ohlhausen DuBois Architects, also of New York -- that made the cut as finalists to build the Clyfford Still Museum present their proposals.

The museum, which will house approximately 2,400 pieces by Clyfford Still (pictured above) bequeathed to the City of Denver, will also be part of the Civic Center Cultural Complex. The site just south of 13th Avenue on Bannock Street has already been purchased; an opening is slated for 2009. Now the project just has to pick an architectural firm -- and then keep it.
