More Messages: Fryar's Club

Categories: Media
It's not often when journalists go out of their way to praise scribes at rival publications. But today, Lynn Bartels (pictured), a consistently outstanding and refreshingly funny reporter for the Rocky Mountain News, did just that this morning, when she sent yours truly the following note:
The best reporter at the state Capitol said good-bye on Friday. John Fryar, who covered state government for the Loveland, Longmont and Canon City papers, is being reassigned to cover Boulder County.

The Lehmans are closing their bureau for financial reasons. What a loss. Fryar has covered the Capitol since 1991 and was the dean of the Capitol Press Corps. He was the last old timer here. He had a reputation for being fair, accurate and knowledgeable. Lawmakers were extremely upset when they heard he was leaving. They're having a good-bye cake for him today.

Fairness, accuracy and knowledge are definitely worth celebrating -- and so are salutes to talented peers, no matter where they work. -- Michael Roberts
