Blizzards: The Up Side
This year, yet another victory for a Denver daily seemed unlikely -- but according to an article in Editor & Publisher, a journalism industry trade mag, it's not out of the realm of possibility. A list of supposed finalists names the Post in connection to its reporting on those wonderful blizzards that struck the city.
The other candidates in this division include the Oregonian, which led the pack in writing about James Kim, who died trying to save his lost family, and the Louisville Courier-Journal, a paper whose coverage of a Comair plane crash last summer that took more than four dozen lives has earned much praise.
As such, the Post might be in the position of actor Ryan Gosling at this year's Oscars -- honored to be nominated, but with little chance to actually win. Don't count the broadsheet out, though. After all, the Pulitzer judges seem to like -- really, really like -- Colorado. -- Michael Roberts
