Goodbye Dahlia

As noted in an April Message column and blog items like this one from May 7, the Rocky Mountain News appears to be focusing much of its impending staff slimming on the features section. Some employees have already been shifted, in whole or in part, to duties elsewhere in the paper, while others are expected to accept the tabloid's buyout deal. Against this backdrop, it's no surprise that scribes are looking for other employment options -- and society columnist Dahlia Weinstein has found one. She's leaving the Rocky in favor of a position at a new publication, Shine.

Here's the May 21 memo announcing her departure, penned by managing editor Deb Goeken:

Everybody: Society reporter Dahlia Weinstein is leaving to edit Shine, a
glossy upscale lifestyle magazine debuting this fall. Dahlia has deftly navigated the society beat for seven years and has added fashion coverage to her duties as well. She has been a wonderful representative for the Rocky in the community and a great colleague. We will miss her, and wish her well.
