What If You Had a Pageant and Nobody Came?

Categories: News

Adobe%20ID%20164ASPMB447390.jpgIn Colorado's weedy, parched backyard (aka Wyoming), the odds of winning the state beauty pageant are pretty goddamn good -- about one in four, to be exact. The annual pageant managed to scrape up just four contestants this year. Four.

I wish I could chalk this up to the good sense of Wyoming's citizenry, but I grew up there so I know that isn't the case. Maybe it's the dearth of people who live there? Even for a state with roughly the same population as Aurora, that's pretty pathetic. Hell, I bet if they had a Miss Aurora pageant they'd have at least a few dozen entrants.

The reasons for such a meager turnout may not be clear, but there is a valuable lesson to be learned here. Since the Miss Wyoming winner gets to compete in Miss America, Wyoming is the place to be for any pageant contender that can't hack it in their home state. -- Cory Casciato
