Freudian Typo

Typographical errors are common in newspapering -- but seldom are they more satisfying than the one a sharp-eyed Westworder spotted in "Panel to Target Backlog of Disabled Adults in Need," a story in the June 30 Rocky Mountain News.

The article, by Alan Gathright, reveals what appears to be an egregious bureaucratic tangle that's summed up in the following sentence: "Margot Richard is among thousands of aging Colorado parents who live with the fear that they could die or fall ill, leaving their vulnerable, developmentally disabled adult children with no support because of state service backlogs requiring them to wait as long as 20 years." Gathright goes on to quote Democratic Representative Michael Garcia, who sponsored a resolution to create an interim committee charged with tackling this problem.

What's so amusing about that? The committee is said to be "comprised of 10 state flawmakers."

"Flawmakers"? That sounds about right. -- Michael Roberts
