Plenty of authors are shy about pimping themselves -- but not Chuck Palahniuk, the subject of a Q&A conducted in advance of a May 22 event at the Tattered Cover LoDo. His website is a hype spot par excellence that currently lavishes attention on his latest book, Snuff, via t-shirts and even video clips ostensibly starring Cassie Wright, the porn queen whose decision to film herself doing the horizontal mambo with 600 men in a row provides an impetus for the novel's skintastic action. Click above for an example -- a faux preview for a Wright flick called Twilight Bone. It'll transport you to another dimension. -- Michael Roberts

I think Palahniuk is a pretty decent author, especially for the ideas he presents in his books. But what would I know...I guess I'm intellectually inferior to blowhards like yourself and Laura Miller. I suffer from poor taste, correct? I don't know what good copy is? I must be goth, atheistic, and barely literate.
Clearly there are many writers much worse than CP, no? Why the vitriol? Does it actually piss you off that people enjoy his books? Why the hell do you care what people like and don't like? If you have such a clear vision of what isn't "pretentious", then write your own damn book.

Typical gimmickry from an amazingly overrated and pretentious novelist. For more, read the definitive smackdown of all things Palahniuk by Laura Miller.
Then read the author's sour grapes, self aggrandizing response to her review in which he likens himself to F. Scott friggin Fitzgerald.
Just sayin...
