David Sirota vs. Stephen Colbert, Round Two

At 12:30 a.m. Mountain time, during the wee hours of May 30, David Sirota, a columnist whose work frequently turns up in the physical version of the Denver Post as well as on Politics West, a Post blog that was at the center of a September 2007 Message column, will sit across a table from one of the few current pundits who understands that he's saying stupid things: Stephen Colbert.

Yes, Sirota's the guest on the next edition of The Colbert Report, the consistently hilarious Comedy Central send-up of cable blowhards. He's been down this road before: Click here to view his previous appearance on the program, broadcast in June 2006. And as was the case during that visit, he's got a new book to promote. His latest effort, The Uprising: An Unauthorized Tour of the Populist Revolt Scaring Wall Street and Washington, sounds like just the sort of progressive manifesto that Colbert loves to whack around.

Of course, Sirota won't mind being on the receiving end of a satirical smackdown -- if, that is, it helps him sell a few more books. -- Michael Roberts
