If you've lived in Denver longer than five minutes, you've probably heard the Bonfils name. More specifically, you've probably heard Helen Bonfils' name -- she only ran The Denver Post for years and gave millions to such philanthropic organizations as the Belle Bonfils Memorial Blood Center, the Denver Zoo and the Dumb Friends League, not to mention turning the theater at Elitch Gardens into a first-rate regional venue and building the Bonfils Theater on Colfax Avenue (pictured; the building now houses the Tattered Cover among other retail ventures). No big deal.

If all this is Greek to you, hie to the New Denver Civic Theatre, 721 Santa Fe Drive, to hear a discussion of Miss Helen's life by some of the people who knew her well. At 7 p.m., Henry Lowenstein -- long-time director of the Bonfils Theater during its heyday -- and author/former Post reporter Eva Hodges Watt, who wrote Papa’s Girl: The Fascinating World of Helen Bonfils.
