Bob Palmer.

Of late, Democratic National Convention-related reports have dominated the home pages at area television stations' websites. But at this writing, another story has risen to the fore at Channel 4, Channel 7 and Channel 9 -- the death of veteran Denver-area television anchor Bob Palmer at age 77.

When he retired from Channel 4 in 1997, Palmer was a reassuring, grandfatherly presence -- but two decades earlier, he was the star of a Channel 7 newscast that dominated the ratings. Click "More" to see a video clip of Palmer in his 1977 prime, complete with cheesy graphics and theme music that Will Ferrell's Ron Burgundy character could appreciate. That's the way it was. -- Michael Roberts
