Six-time Prohibition Party presidential candidate and Lakewood resident Earl Dodge, 74, died last fall before he could run for a seventh nomination.

And in a strange twist of fate, Dodge’s would-be running mate, Texas insurance adjuster Howard Lydick, has also died.

Dodge, who ran a political memorabilia business, had already had buttons printed with he and Lydick’s faces for the 2008 election cycle. Now Dodge’s wife, Barbara, is selling all of her husband’s remaining troves of buttons, photos, ribbons and historical memorabilia on her eBay store or at www.buttonsbydodge.com, including those of Dodge and Lydick (who died last week).

But a curator for the Smithsonian plans to acquire Dodge’s collection of temperance-related material when he is town next week for the Democratic National Convention.
