Shmuck: Bob and Justin Schaffer Come Undone

"Slavery gets shit done," according to the Facebook page for Justin Schaffer, son of U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer, but shmuckiness gets it undone.

Earlier this week, a story broke about the younger Schaffer, whose page on the Facebook website included content that some people deemed obnoxious at best and racist at worst.

In addition to a picture of pyramids with the "Slavery" quote, there was one showing Barack Obama and cereal seller Count Chocula that said "Separated at birth?"; one showing Obama with his hand in the air and the line, "High Five….Who’s Gay?"; and a picture of Jesus holding a machine gun in front of a Confederate flag that reads, “What Would Republican Jesus Do?”

Justin Schaffer, who is nineteen and attends the University of Dayton, apologized on Monday and changed the page. A link to the original can be found here.

His father said he would punish his son, but stopped short of condemning the material as state representative Rosemary Marshall, who is black, asked him to. "This is an individual raised in Bob Schaffer's home," Marshall said in a statement issued by her office. "Clearly, [Justin] was in an environment where this kind of racism was tolerated."

Longtime Republican operative and Schaffer campaign spokesman Dick Wadhams didn’t tell Marshall to shove it up her ass – although it is lingo he likes to use. Instead, he was quoted as saying: "Bob Schaffer rejected what his son had on that website… Bob Schaffer's son issued an apology.”

He’s sorry. Very, very sorry.
