"Hi, my name is Robbie, and I'm with the John McCain campaign..."

Yesterday, Shannon Barbare of Greenwood Village visited the Huffington Post and stumbled upon a Sam Stein piece entitled "Wave Of McCain Robocalls Reported, Some May Violate State Law," which warned about an initiative launched yesterday "to alarm voters about Barack Obama's past association with former radical Bill Ayers." Then, at about 8 p.m. that evening at the Barbare home -- ring! -- it's a McCain robocall about Bill Ayers.

Coincidence? Or has the McCain campaign found a clever new way to punish anyone who reads the Huffington Post? Surf there at your own risk. -- Michael Roberts

Update, 12:11 p.m.: Just got an e-mail from Shannon Barbare, who points out that Republicans aren't the only ones who've upped the ante on robocalling. Here's her note:

The Dems fight back. I just got an automated call from "Joe Martinez, a plumber" from somewhere in metro Denver... I didn't catch the whole thing, but the gist of it was "Take it from Joe the Plumber. Barack Obama's tax cuts will help middle-class Americans." Paid for by Colorado Democratic Party. Authorized by the Obama campaign.

I understand that plumbers named Joe are very popular these days... -- MR
