Carpool the Obama way
Heading to D.C. for the inauguration? The last thing you'll want to do is help usher in the Obama presidency with your supersized, Bush-era carbon footprint.
The solution, according to TripVerde, an Austin, Texas (ironically)-based company with offices in Denver and Palo Alto, is ride-sharing, and TripVerde's RideJockeys are now pairing people with fellow travelers from the same regions.
"Four million people are expected to make the trip to Washington, D.C., for the January 20, 2009, inauguration of Barack Obama, an historic event also estimated to generate millions of pounds of carbon dioxide emissions," the company's press release says.
Instead, a rider in a four-person car going 2,700 miles, for instance, would pay about $200, which is cheaper than the bus or a plane ticket, the company says.
