The Lance Hering story continues
Lance Hering, the marine who faked his own death in Eldorado Canyon and disappeared nearly two years ago, days before he was to report back to active duty, will face a summary court-martial Friday at Camp Pendleton, where he is currently being held. Hering will be charged with one count of Article 85 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. If he's convicted, he could face up to a year in military prison and a discharge for bad conduct.
Interestingly enough, Hering will not be charged with Article 85, desertion, which comes with stiffer penalties - including three years in a military prison and a dishonorable discharge. A spokesperson for Camp Pendleton would not elaborate further.
Hering still faces charges in Boulder County for probation violation as the result of an attempted burglary in 2004 -- a late-night parkour expedition gone wrong that landed him and his best friend, Steve Powers, in the custody of Boulder police.
