Searching for jobs in the suddenly struggling Colorado oil and gas industry

Categories: News

us oil jobs logo.JPGNot too long ago, the oil and gas industry was among the only business categories flourishing in Colorado. Even as the economy was getting softer and softer along the I-25 corridor, Western Slope communities like Grand Junction were booming. But thanks to falling fuel costs (among the rare blessings for most of us in the current economic crisis), that's no longer the case. Today's lead story on the website of GJ's Daily Sentinel -- yet another newspaper in these parts that's up for sale -- concerns the difficulty unemployed locals are experiencing when trying to phone the Colorado Department of Labor.

Nonetheless, there are still some -- though not a lot -- of oil and gas positions open at present. USOilJobs.com, a new website launched by a Denver-based firm, currently lists 29 gigs statewide. Some of them-- like a "PLC HMI Programmer" -- are very specialized, while others, including an "Associate Information Systems Support" position, are more general. In addition, a Lakewood outfit is looking for a "Risk Engineering Intern." Talk about a job title for the times...
