Today's Night & Day featured event: Six words are more than enough

Categories: Things to Do

Shakespeare wrote that "brevity is the soul of wit" -- but most of his plays were pretty damn long, weren't they? Not so the entries compiled in Six-Word Memoirs on Love & Heartbreak: By Writers Famous and Obscure. As you'll see by watching the video above, Ernest Hemingway was once challenged to tell a story in just six words, and he managed it with an evocative faux ad that read, "For sale: baby shoes, never worn." With Papa's inspiration in mind, Memoirs editors Larry Smith and Rachel Fershleiser put out a call to folks willing to engage in a similar exercise, and before they were done, they'd collected gems ranging from the Dave Eggers quip "Fifteen years since last professional haircut" to the BillySirr line "Anything's possible with an extension cord." That last guy sounds plugged in.

Smith and Fershleiser will talk about and sign copies of Six-Word Memoirs at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Tattered Cover's main branch, at 2526 East Colfax Avenue. There's no charge for admission. Learn more by clicking on this Tattered Cover website link or by phoning 303-322-7727.
