The name game took a loopy twist after Colorado Media Matters published an item last Wednesday attacking KHOW talk-show host Peter Boyles for referring to Congresswoman Diana DeGette as "Vagina DeGette" and "Vagina DeJet," for reasons that are too dopey to explain -- although CMM did so at length in its initial item, as well as not one but two follow-up blogs. And as if that weren't enough, two Denver Post scribes, staffer Chuck Plunkeet and columnist Susan Greene, subsequently weighed in on this groin-o-cological incident, too, with both hitting Boyles where it hurts -- right in his Peter.

Plunkett struck first in February 20's "Riffing on the V-Word When Your Name is Peter." After noting that our tireless Shmuck of the Week reporters had bestowed their coveted honor on Boyles for his va-jay-jaying, the Post-er fantasized about starting his "own version of the Westword award," to be called "The Lame Peter of the Week Award," before deciding to "follow DeGette's stately example and just ignore the so-and-so."

Greene also thought about shrugging off the subject, which she likened to her three-year-old calling his big brother a "weenis." But instead, she dove into the controversy, in a manner of speaking, interviewing Boyles, who informed her that "vagina" and "Diana" rhymes -- mmmm-kay -- and Colorado Republican Party head Dick Wadhams. "I get called all kinds of things," Wadhams said, displaying more sympathy than expected. "I just don't believe in denigrating anybody's name like that."

No wonder, since Wadhams' detractors have been known to call him "Dickwad" behind his back. Expect a Face the State investigation about that any day now...
