Nature unleashes on Nature Unleashed

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science got an ironic taste of its own medicine, sort of, Monday when a windstorm knocked out power to the institution, forcing it to close for the day. Why was it ironic?

A new exhibit entitled Nature Unleashed is set to open at the museum on Friday, February 13. Although random wind storms aren't included, the exhibit features hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes and volcanoes.

Museum spokeswoman Laura Holtman joked that in any other power-outage situation, museum staffers would stayed at the museum to protect the special exhibit. But since this one features things that have already been destroyed, there wasn't much need.

The outage also affected 2,200 other homes and businesses between Colorado Boulevard and Vine Street, Colfax Avenue and 39th Avenue. The museum hopes to reopen at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Hopefully, its next special exhibit isn't on dinosaurs.
