IWantMyRocky.com promises that "It" is on the way

• Rich, John and Notcj (since you're all the same person), I know you're scared that Dean is going to lay you off. And since you're spending your time here, he probably will. He has to cut a lot, and you're obviously more focused on your bitterness than your job. You may have heard that the web is taking away journalism jobs. But you just keep doing what you're doing, slugger!

• So, what would be wrong with a group of dedicated, trained journalists producing local news on a Web site? The Rocky's local coverage was markedly more balanced and thorough than that in The Denver Post. Who's to say people wouldn't need it, come to rely on it, and pay for it? I would. I hope that's what's coming. Yes, The Post has the columnists. I think they are a great addition to The Post, and I read the surviving paper partly for them. But they don't cover metro news on a daily basis. Finally, why the snide comment about people who "can't move on with their lives?" Why is it wrong to want to continue to do what you know, love and are skilled at? No, I never worked for The Rocky.

• Let me offer another guess: ex-Rocky people who can't move on with their lives ask for "donation-based" help from readers to continue as a local news site. Good luck with that. I can just see people saying, "You know what, I don't have a job right now, but I think I'll pay $10 a month to Iwantmyrocky.com so I can keep reading their prose and poetry." Good luck funding much of a news operation with hat-in-hand begging, ex-Rockers. Good luck paying for things like health insurance programs, too. Probably have as much luck standing with a cardboard sign out on Colfax.

• Let me guess what IT is: a website that will produce content, seek local ad dollars to support itself and be the online Rocky Mountain News without actually calling itself that. The site gets some free publicity from Michael "Rocky Pimp" Roberts, and a couple of seconds on the local TV news before the next car crash or weather report. The site covers all things Denver, and things seem great. Then the ex-Rocky people's unemployment checks run out, the severance is spent and it's time for them to look for real work finally. Then, the few pennies they were getting for a pop-up ad from an obscure mail-order business or the excess inventory from ad agency shops who couldn't sell it anywhere else goes away. Then, the site dies. Am I right, Iwantmyrocky.com?
