Quarterbacks the Broncos have no shot at getting next year because of idiotic trade

Denver Post columnist Dave Krieger correctly noted the two NFL draft decisions for which coach Josh McDaniels and his crew will be second-guessed: taking more offensive players than defenders even though the defense blows like a $2 hooker, and trading the team's first-round pick next year to Seattle for a 2009 second-round selection used to pick up cornerback Alphonso Smith.

This last move was exasperating for a couple of reasons. First, the Broncos have a plethora of defensive backs but mighty few d-lineman capable of generating the kind of pass rush that will give the corners and safeties a genuine chance to excel. And because the team will probably have a terrible record next season, that first round pick would have been higher than usual -- maybe high enough to snag one of the outstanding quarterback prospects expected to be available in the 2010 draft. CBS Sports' Pete Prisco lists three QBs apt to go in the top ten this time next year: Mississippi's Jevan Snead, Oklahoma's Sam Bradford and Texas' Colt McCoy -- and he also sees value in Central Michigan's Dan Lefever and Florida's Tim Tebow.

I can't agree with Prisco on this last one: Tebow seems like an NFL bust in the making. But it's clear the next QB class is a talented one, and the Broncos could have had a shot at snaring someone promising if it still owned both its pick and the one it got from Chicago in the Jay Cutler exchange. And now? Hope you like Kyle Orton...

I don't know why we put so much stock into what ESPN pundits or even worse, newspaper reporters. How are they a judge of talent? The real judge of talent that fits a particular system are the folks who developed the system and know what type of player it takes. Having said that, yes, they could come up short but not because a reporter says they will. Time will tell if our QB sitrep works or not. As for making an "idiotic" trade messes up our chance for a "franchise" QB next year, I can only look at recent 1st-rounders like Russell, V Young, M Leinart, A Smith, J Campbell, T Couch, D Carr, J Harrington. What happened there? Then I look at T Brady, M Cassell, M Bulger, M Hasselback, K Warner, T Romo, and J Delhomme just to name a few. Late rounders or undrafted and they became winners. They were put into systems that succeeded. So get off your camera facing podium and recognize the truth. You don't know any better that me or Joe the Plumber what's gonna happen. We will all just wait and see won't we?
wow!!!! Couldn't any better my self Dubs. You have just made a solid point and has anyone thought of the idea of picking up a dynamic player at QB like maybe say a 3-Time Pro Bowler, former 1 pick, someone whose been to a conference title game. Yeah that's right I think vick should be on our priority.
Alphonso Smith will be an excellent value as Champ Baileys replacement. Champ has been hurt the last 2 years and really should have been on the DL list last year. He is also getting older. If he goes down this year, this pick will be deemed an excellent move. Also keep in mind that an early pick is very expensive and sometimes impossible to trade. The Chiefs had to reach on Tyson Jackson at 3, after unsuccessfully attempting to trade out. They got a good player, but with a $30 million + signing bonus. This team has too many holes to fill. Spending that much on any player is a joke and would prohibit adding much needed talent over the next 3 years.
I am a dark ninja from the depths, and my countenance will not be tried. Michael Roberts, you actually agree with the dolts at the Denver Post? That third rate paper should be bankrupt by now due to the likes of Woody Paige, Jim Armstrong and this Krieger character. Jay Cutler, or shall I say Huckdort Jay, since Jay Hucks the ball then "Dort" gets picked off... Cutler never looked right, didn't win, and flubbed around like a chicken with its head cut off more times than not, especially in the fourth quarter. This Orton don't look right neither, but he's a winner unlike Huckdort. He protects the ball and manages the game, unlike Huckdort. I happen to have inside information that Huckdort also gives off a foul, unpleasant odor. Which does not surprise me one bit considering his look. It don't matter if you got a rocket arm when you got a ten cent head. A ten cent head and a five cent haircut. Josh McDaniels rooked the Bears, he swindled them out of first rounders for something that resembles a Pro Bowl caliber player. Huckdort undeservedly appeared in that Pro Bowl. The real Broncos fans know it, the rest of the league don't. McDaniels took one look at the tapes and realized this kid don't look right and isn't a winner. Now we picked up the best running back in the draft who will eat up the clock, take pressure off Orton and the defense and have an Emmett Smith-like impact for years to come. We have Ayers who seems to be a solid defensive end. Which we needed. Without the Huckdort pick we would have never had the luxury of picking Moreno first, it would have been one defensive end and gone... either than or breaking the bank to trade up for just one player who is risky on the line and having to pay out the ass for him as well mind you. We also get the dynamic Alphonso Smith, who will be a starter in this league. Not next year, not the year after, but immediately. We got three impact football players with the help of Huckydort Jay, thanks Chicago. And by the way, McDaniels sent a message to his team, the true Bronco fans and degenerates that lack general tact and mental acuity like this Michael Roberts character: Take our 1st round pick next year Seattle, we're going to be better than Chicago with that choking, pick-throwing gooned out Huckdort at the helm. Remember this when that Huckdort is shouting down his kicker on the field, and Alphonso Smith is running back touchdowns.
