Ward Churchill wins...a dollar

The verdict has arrived in Ward Churchill's wrongful-termination lawsuit against the University of Colorado at Boulder, and it's a mixed bag. The jury found that Churchill was dismissed in part because of things he said -- something that, if I remember correctly, is supposed to be protected by one of those Amendment thingies. However, the amount of monetary damages awarded to him was $1.
These messages will be interpreted differently by the various parties. On KHOW, Dan Caplis and Craig Silverman, who were terrified at the prospect that Churchill would come out of the trial with a clear-cut win, portrayed the jury's decision not to offer him a big pile of dough as a victory for CU. But Churchill, who has said he didn't take the matter to court in order to make a mint, will no doubt claim a moral victory.
