Fort Collins Coloradoan's Denver printing switch starts today

As you can see by the adjacent logo, the Fort Collins Coloradoan's slogan is, "Bringing Fort Collins Home." But beginning today, the company responsible for bringing the Coloradoan to Fort Collins is the Denver Newspaper Agency.

Back on March 11, rumors began circulating about a deal between the Coloradoan and the DNA that would result in the closure of the Fort Collins paper's printing plant and the loss of more than forty jobs -- gossip that was confirmed later that morning in a Coloradoan press release. In a subsequent conversation, Coloradoan publisher/president Kim Roegner shared her respect for the employees who'd be losing their jobs and noted that they'd be eligible for severance on their last day of work -- May 11. Henceforth, the Coloradoan will be printed at the Denver Post's plant and trucked north.

As a cost-saving effort, the move makes sense, particularly in light of the dreadful economics afflicting daily newspapers. But that ol' motto may need an overhaul...
