Today's featured event: Celebrate Cinco with the CSO
In this town, one supposes a Tuesday night in the middle of the week can stretch only enough to contain a Cinco de Mayo warm-up, regardless of what the calendar says. The real action, from Federal Boulevard cruisers to the big event in Civic Center Park, will probably heat up over the weekend. But it wouldn't hurt at all to get into a festive mood tonight at the Colorado Symphony Orchestra's free annual Un Toque de Mexico concert, would it?
Beginning at 7 p.m. in Boettcher Hall, Denver Performing Arts Complex, the CSO teams up with the Consulate General of Mexico, the Mexican Cultural Center and NEWSED to present a steaming hot platter of traditional cultural entertainment and favorite Spanish-language tunes by Fiesta Colorado Dance, mariachi bands Sol de mi Tierra and the Mariachi Juvenil de Bryant-Webster, trumpeter Jeff Nevin, soprano Florencia Tinoco and others. One advantage? You'll still have time to hit the bars afterward if you just can't wait for the weekend to come. Olé! Plus, the price is right: Admission is free but tickets are required. Visit the CSO box office in the Boettcher Hall lobby or call the Mexican Consulate at 303-331-1110, ext. 111, for details, or get more information at Denver's official Cinco de Mayo website.
