Denver: The best city for single ghosts trying to catch a train?
Forbes.com -- America's go-to source for tax law updates, breaking commodities news and sexiness -- has named Denver the 13th best city for singles.

"With a brunt of popular sports teams -- Broncos, Nuggets, Avalanche and Rockies -- as well as a lively bar scene, Denver isn't just for skiing," the website says. "Popular spots for singles include the Denver Art Museum, P S Lounge -- which is more of a dive bar -- and the Thin Man, favored for its outdoor seating in the summer."

True that, Forbes. That horse on the chair outside the art museum is a real aphrodisiac.

To come up with its list, Forbes ranked 40 cities in seven categories. Here's how Denver measured up: living cost (3), job growth (11), culture (22), online dating (14), nightlife (17), singles (32) and coolness (20). That last ranking was based on a survey that asked adults which city they think is the coolest -- which sounds about as lame as those Facebook surveys that ask which type of flooring you are.

So basically, there aren't a lot of singles in Denver -- which you'd think would be crucial -- but there are cheap apartments and it's fairly cool. Sort of. Okay, on a scale of one to cool, it's a solid five.

Still, the Mile High City managed to beat out Cincinnati, Detroit, Miami, Las Vegas, Buffalo ... do I need to go on? It did not beat L.A., Chicago or New York City, which was ranked No.1. Duh. Props to Carrie Bradshaw.

The Forbes.com story also points out another trend this year: a big increase in online dating. To illustrate its point, it quotes a professor called Pepper Schwartz, Ph.D., which is just about the most awesome name I've ever heard.

"People are telling us that when things are tough, core needs are most important," Pepper says. "And love -- someone to share your life with -- is a core need."

So, Pepper Schwartz, Ph.D., what are you up to Friday night? There's this horse on a chair I'd love to show you ...
