Running toilet terrorizes children; no one flushes

Far be it for me to question to the message of Denver Water -- "Use Only What You Need" -- or its toilet mascot, who attends events around town, flushing that message down.

But it seemed a little excessive when the toilet, fresh (so to speak) off a visit to the Black Arts Festival in City Park, rumbled up the hill toward the Denver Museum of Nature in Science on Sunday and careened into the fountain, where dozens of kids were deliriously cooling off on a cloudy, if muggy-hot, day.

I don't think the toilet meant to scare them, but you have to admit that a giant toilet appearing out of nowhere and running through the fountain is a bit weird. A couple of concerned parents looked like they were just a second away from tackling it -- like security did two years ago at a CU vs. CSU game, or last year when guards at Rapids game stopped the running toilet.

And as for the message of conserving water: I think it worked. Some of those kids may never set foot near water again.
