Report: Computer geeks sitting pretty -- or at least not that ugly -- in the Colorado job market

"I know my way around these babies. I'll be fine."

Good news for at least some job seekers: The Denver Business Journal reported today that a recent survey by ConsultNet, an IT and engineering staffing agency, shows that 25 percent of surveyed companies expect to hire more IT and engineering staff in the next six months. That's up from 10 percent that added workers in the prior six months. The Journal also reported that 13 percent of surveyed companies are increasing their IT/engineering budget.

That's good news for the pocket-protector set, so if you know how to terminate an ethernet cable, configure a router or program some Python, you should be polishing your resume now.

On the other hand, another recent survey reported that Colorado ranks last among U.S. states for companies looking to invest in oil and gas extraction. Seems our efforts to insure clean air and water and tax the oil companies make this an unappealing place to drill. Bummer for all you would-be oil roughnecks. Guess you better learn to work on computers, too.
