Local artist Kyle Banister is all about baseball. Yep, he lives it, breathes it, reveres it and draws it. "There isn't an emotion that you will feel in life that you won't feel on a baseball field if you spend enough time there," Banister writes online -- and that's why, in the midst of the All-Star break, he's putting on an artistic paean to the game with help from Eric Matelski of Art Pimp Productions. While the leagues clash on TV tonight, he'll play host at an opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m., replete with hot dogs, Cracker Jack and apple pie, for the All Star Baseball Art Show, which features nothing but baseball-inspired art, most of it created on baseball bats by Banister and a host of other local artists. Perhaps the most well-known participant in the show is former Rocky Mountain News sports cartoonist Drew Litton, who will offer some original work for sale and might do some demo drawings during tonight's event.

After the reception, All Star Baseball will be open to the public from noon to 7 p.m. on July 18, 19, 25 and 26 or by appointment at Denver Creative Cooperative Studios, 425 Lincoln Street. Learn more at ericmatelski.com. Play ball.
