If the comedy turns a little dark tonight at the Bovine Metropolis Theater, 1527 Champa Street, it's okay. The 7:30 p.m. benefit performance, A Night of Tumorous Comedy, featuring the Gypsy Cab Company troupe, will focus on three connected monologues by local improv veterans and cancer survivors Sara Alan, Pam Farone and Betsy Vajtay, who will share their stories to raise funds for the Team Sarcoma Initiative, which works to increase awareness of the rare cancer, provides services for its victims and helps finance research.

"Our conditions and stories are different, but we found many commonalities with our struggle for survival and maintaining hope," says Alan, who is the only one of the three to have had a sarcoma. "And we know there are so many others out there -- survivors, patients, caregivers, loved ones -- dealing with similar conditions who will be able to connect, relate and maybe even laugh a little at the show we've created."

The $15 ticket price is a small fee to pay for that kind of funny. To save a seat, email reservations@bovinemetropolis or call 303-758-4722; go to the website for details.
