It's only right that the Denver Film Society's Film on the Rocks series should fĂȘte Woodstock's 40th anniversary, considering that the event, the music and the movie have become inseparably melded in our collective consciousness over time. Besides, FOTR is all about a similar gestalt -- so of course they added the date, which coincides with the Woodstock anniversary frenzy. And flashback fever is only getting started, since Ang Lee's much awaited film Taking Woodstock doesn't open for another couple of weeks.

Hit Red Rocks Amphitheatre when the gates open tonight at 6 p.m. for Peace & Love on the Rocks, a special FOTR edition featuring live music by Something Underground and a long, festive roster of Colorado all-star guests, from Jock Bartley to Henry Butler and way beyond. Then, at dusk, it's on to the main attraction: an al fresco screening of Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace & Music Director's Cut, during which you'll relive well-etched performances by the likes of the Who, Sly and the Family Stone, Santana, Joe Cocker, Jimi Hendrix and other memorable music figures of the day.

Let your cool slide for a night and instead let your freak flag fly, to quote another Woodstockian, David Crosby: Admission is $10, and the music begins at 6:45 p.m. Get details at www.denverfilm.org and advance tickets at www.ticketswest.com.
