Wake-Up Call: Good riddance to First Data

alarm_clock.jpg
First Data has flown the coop. The financial firm that moved its corporate offices to Greenwood Village in 2001 is now moving those offices back to Atlanta.

First Data certainly made its mark while it was headquartered here. With its then-subsidiary Western Union doing a booming business in sending money to Mexico, the company held a few rancorous immigration forums a few years ago -- and also took on Congressman Tom Tancredo, an opponent of illegal immigration.

Then last year, First Data pushed Frontier into bankruptcy with its demand that the airline put up more collateral for its credit-card transactions.

But Frontier is still cruising, and now that the court has signed off on its deal with Republic Airways Holdings, it chould soon emerge from bankruptcy, keep its name and maybe even keep its Colorado headquarters.

Unlike First Data.
